Kara Kesselring & Sugarcreek Road to perform at Old Town School of Folk Music August 3, 2015 “Remember when music made you happy? Plain, simple happy? It touched something inside of you and made you feel like someone out there knew how you felt? The art of folk music is just that and perfectly captured in this wonderful the album, Hurry Up & Relax by Kara Kesselring & Sugarcreek Road.”-George Adamczyk Hello friends! It’s me, Kara Kesselring and I’m pleased to meet you! I am a singer, songwriter, piano playing, educating, guitar and accordion dabbler, mother of Iris, wife of Patrick, master of Daisy the dog, Iowan, long time Berwyn-ian, lover of travel, Jersey Boys Broadway tour playing, Airbnb hosting, gal. I’d like to personally invite you to Old Town School of Folk Music where I’ve proudly taught the young, the old and many in-between since 1999. On August 20th, I will be joined by my band Sugarcreek Road to perform songs from our new, original album entitled Hurry Up & Relax. I love to write storytelling songs, songs with emotional arcs ranging from humorous to touching, songs of nostalgia. Hurry Up & Relax features twang-tinged folk, pretty pop and a smattering of jazz. The songs juxtapose life growing up on a family farm in Iowa with moving to Chicago; rural versus urban. This album began in 2012 when I launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to get my original music heard. Producer/engineer/musician Chris Cash helped make that happen over a two year process. I’ve been a working musician in Chicago for two decades, playing piano and singing for weddings, corporate events and various jazz, pop, classical and country performances. I love that each day, new opportunities to perform crop up. I have a Tumblr blog on my website called “Playing Singing Mama” about the adventures and challenges of two full time musician parents with Iris, our precocious 7 year old daughter. She has lived on a tour bus, spent most Saturday nights sleeping over at friends’ houses, and for the past year was homeschooled while I performed a 10-month season of Jersey Boys on the road. We’ve lived in hotels and Airbnbs across the country, Canada and Japan. What a circus life we lead! August 20th will be a great celebration of music and fun in the Szold Hall space of Old Town School of Folk Music. Amazing musicians such as Neal Alger-guitar, Patrick Williams-bass, Chris Cash-drums, Rob Anderlik-dobro and many more will join us. I’m pleased to have the Oh Yeah’s opening for us and adding their sweet vocal backups to my tunes. The Oh Yeahs are the talented and beautiful singers, Allison Orobia, Sarah Marie Young and Leslie Beukelman. Click HERE for tickets! Or you can call the box office at 773-728-6000.
