philippine island love in chicago by guest blogger : aeron lancero, GM of sunda December 14, 2009 I am of Filipino decent and had the opportunity of receiving my education in the Philippines and living there a great deal of time. My Executive Chef Rodelio Aglibot was born there and raised in Hawaii, Rockit Ranch Productions’ founder and CEO Billy Dec is half Filipino and has been there over a dozen times, and our sushi chef Jesse is Filipino American as well. As we all have ties to the Philippines, clearly it was a priority to do something to help the victims of the terrible typhoons so tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 15, beginning at 6 p.m., Sunda will co-host a very special dinner with Gawad Kalinga, benefiting Operation: Walang Iwanan (Leave No One Behind) in our new Sunda private room on the second floor. We have a very special night lined up, beginning with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the lounge and then moving upstairs where we will have a wonderful program with guest speakers incuding Gawad Kalinga’s Chairman Tony Olaes and Rick Munda. I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but there will also be two very special musical performances. As usual, Rodelio will dazzle everyone with some of his favorite dishes, such as Loompya, Pancit Canton, Crispy Pata and Chicken and Pork Adobo, among other mouthwatering offerings. Of course, as the cause is why we are gathering for this special night, I’d like to mention the silent auction we have put together. There are so many great items that have been donated by various businesses and organizations in Chicago, including two business class tickets on United Airlines anywhere in North America, autographed jerseys from the Chicago Bears, a gift basket from Ultimat and many other packages such as hotel stays, bottles of reserve wines, spa passes and chef dinners at various Chicago restaurants. We are very grateful for the support thus far and as proud as we all are of giving back, we are honored that we live in a great city that allows us to be able to do help those in need in other cultures, cities and countries. The cost (including beverages) is $100 per person and is inclusive of tax and gratuity. For more information or reservations contact Cathy Kim via email at [email protected] or at 312-644-0500. I hope to see you Tuesday night!
