Thresholds and The Brandon Marshall Foundation partner to host “Limelight” at Morgan Manufacturing on October 10th to shed light on mental illness

Google ‘stigma’ and it is defined as “a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance, quality, or person…the stigma of mental disorder.” One in four adults has a mental illness. That staggering fact means that most of us have a friend, neighbor, or family member who is suffering. Stigma drives those who have a mental illness into the dark, causes many to suffer silently, and often prevents people from seeking help for fear of being labeled. That fear puts families at risk, sabotages jobs, friendships, and relationships. Brandon Marshall, a star wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, has made it his mission through his foundation, to eliminate stigma. He has bravely stepped forward to share his story and, in the process, has become a beacon of light for others.

Thresholds assists and inspires people with mental illnesses to reclaim their lives through health services, employment, advocacy and housing. I was introduced to Thresholds four years ago when donating to their Mothers Project, which assists young mothers living with a mental illness while caring for their children. As a mother of two young children, I can only imagine the challenges these women face. Thresholds has given these mothers the skills to become better parents, and of crucial importance, has provided stability for their children. Thresholds saves lives and families one person at a time.

Thresholds and The Brandon Marshall Foundation have partnered to host Limelight on October 10th for an evening of delicious food, drinks, and mingling with Brandon and his Bears teammates.
