AChicagoThing sits down with Chicago Rock Band: Filligar March 4, 2013 Lauded as “one of the top 8 live acts in America,” the Chicago-bred rock group Filligar is bursting onto the international music scene at breakneck speed. The quartet is comprised of brothers Pete (drums), Johnny (guitar, lead vocals), and Teddy Mathias (bass), along with their lifelong friend Casey Gibson (keyboard, backup vocals). Formed in 2000, the classic rock-influenced band has seen their popularity grow steadily over their young career, having toured with Counting Crows in 2012 and supporting other high-profile acts such as Alabama Shakes, the Black Keys, Otis Day and the Knights, B.o.B, and more. Filligar’s most recent album, The Nerve (2010), was met with great critical acclaim, earning them a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Independent Music Awards and drawing comparisons to a young Rolling Stones, The Doors, Kings of Leon, and the Black Keys. Filligar’s in store for another busy schedule in 2013, which will include the release of another highly anticipated full album.
