Live to Support (LTS) Chicago Uses Recreational Sports Leagues and Social Events to Raise Awareness and Donations for Local Charities March 6, 2013 Live to Support (LTS) Chicago was co-founded in the summer of 2010 by Mark Biery and Chris DuCharme. It was Biery’s belief that instead of creating a recreational sports league where members receive a t-shirt or medal for participation, they could use the registration fees as a way of giving back to local charities. LTS has several sports leagues including kickball, dodgeball, volleyball, soccer, softball, and flag football. In addition, LTS also coordinates tournaments and sports-related social events. The company believes a core network of young professionals provides an ideal platform to support Chicago charities through monetary donations and awareness.

AChicagoThing sits down with Chicago Rock Band: Filligar March 4, 2013 Lauded as "one of the top 8 live acts in America," the Chicago-bred rock group Filligar is bursting onto the international music scene at breakneck speed. The quartet is comprised of brothers Pete (drums), Johnny (guitar, lead vocals), and Teddy Mathias (bass), along with their lifelong friend Casey Gibson (keyboard, backup vocals). Formed in 2000, the classic rock-influenced band has seen their popularity grow steadily over their young career, having toured with Counting Crows in 2012 and supporting other high-profile acts such as Alabama Shakes, the Black Keys, Otis Day and the Knights, B.o.B, and more. Filligar’s most recent album, The Nerve (2010), was met with great critical acclaim, earning them a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Independent Music Awards and drawing comparisons to a young Rolling Stones, The Doors, Kings of Leon, and the Black Keys. Filligar’s in store for another busy schedule in 2013, which will include the release of another highly anticipated full album. We had the fortune of catching up with the band before an electric performance in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd at Schubas…

Movie Review of ‘Holy Motors: An Odyssey Into the City of Light’ February 27, 2013 Holy Motors marks the return of French auteur Leos Carax after a 13-year hiatus since his last film. And he arrives in grand fashion, positing an exuberant, surreal tale that’s quite unlike any other film in recent years. Any attempt to accurately and succinctly convey the narrative would prove futile, and perhaps beside the point. Mr. Carax presents an avant-garde patchwork of scenes, whose only commonalities are the lead character, the distinct visual fingerprints of its director, and a pervading sense of despair.
Common Threads Celebrates 10 Years With World Festival at Soldier Field February 25, 2013 Hi Chicago! Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jessica Ortiz and thank Billy for his support throughout the years. Billy has been a close family friend for some time now after being a student of my dad’s at Chicago- Kent Law School. One thing I admire most about him is how much he gives back to Chicago, especially to the children. I found my place at the Chicago-based nonprofit Common Threads in 2012 and knew exactly who to contact as I quickly became a Chicago foodie. Who else puts more photos of food on social media than Mr.Dec?
