I’ve always been a natural hostess, someone who jumps at any and every chance to entertain my family and friends. Yet, whenever I have guests in town, I struggle with my role as a “tour guide,” wondering how to put Chicago on display without succumbing to the ever-popular, though quite cliché options of shopping on Michigan Ave., taking pictures in front of the Bean, or eating our way through the city (a city that, mind you, boasts some of the best restaurants in the world).

Today is the start of Chicago Ideas Week. Now what kind of ideas will be discussed? Lots. And what kind of people will be discussing said ideas? Amazing people.

We are pleased to announce the theatrical release of the highly acclaimed documentary film ESCAPE FIRE: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, executive produced by Doug Scott, President of OgilvyEntertainment, and directed & produced by award-winning filmmakers Matthew Heineman and Susan Froemke.

And on the third day of October, The Chicago River will run shaded with multitudes of independent whiskey, rum, tequila, mezcal, cognac and vodka alike. The masses with gather with intense expectations of world-renowned spirit’s that entice taste buds and blur vision of all who participate.

I can honestly say that AKIRA is my favorite retail store in the entire city of Chicago and there are a million reasons why. I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5 so I can keep this short & sweet. 1. Indian pop icon,Shreya Ghoshal, will be performing live at Rosemont Theatre this Friday September 14th. Organized by L.A. TAN’s CEO Nick Patel. Shreya the leading Indian Singer of Bollywood was born and raised in a quaint West Bengal home in India. She has recorded film songs not only in Hindi but also in Assamesse, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Gujrarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Nepali, Oriya, Tamil, Telegu, and more.

Listen up all you dedicated followers of Alternative Press! If you didn’t already know, Riot Fest is finally making its way to Chicago on September 14-16th! The Congress Theatre and Humboldt Park will be packed with intense alternative music fans. If you love this particular band as much as me then you are probably about to fall off your chair with excitement because Chiodos is coming back at full force with all of the original band mates!!

We may just be a week into September, but it’s time to start talking about Oktober. Because Chicago has tons of events that pay homage to the German festival Oktoberfest. The keg may not get tapped in Munich until the 22nd, but we in Chicago get to start off the celebrating as early as next week! Here’s a list of a couple events:

The Pretty Muddy women’s mud run is arriving in Chicago on Saturday, September 15th at Pretty Muddy Farms in Orland Park. And if you hurry, you can register before the event sells out! What can you expect? A women-only event featuring obstacles, great activities, a pretty awesome after party and yes, the opportunity to get muddy.
