As an asian American chicagoan and a huge supporter of the Olympics coming to our city/country in 2016… I was honored to be invited to an amazing Asian-american rally supporting the chicago 2016 olympic bid w/ the most beautiful performances from different cultural groups around chicago representing the Chinese, Burmese, Bangladeshi, Japanese, Indonesian, Filipino, Korean, Indian, Thai, Pakistani, Laotian, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Nepalese,… to name a few.  I can’t tell you how culturally diverse, energetic, entertaining, talented, proud and supportive the thousands in attendance were… I met dancers, musicians, consulates, media, students, teachers, attorneys, builders, store owners, grandparents, children,… all so excited about welcoming the world to the city that they are proud to call home!  Mayor daley expressed that we have…

a chance to have a world celebration in a town that represents the world… he explained how Chicago has always primarily been made up of immigrants in one form or another- this city was built by immigrants- and is full of culture and backgrounds from every part of the world because of it- and this is our time to host a world celebration in our home- inviting brothers, sisters, family, contacts, friends,… to visit us or simply be a part of the 3.6 billion that watch the celebration on tv… from homes all around the world to enjoy our culturally diverse community and life that we have built here- that we need to be the ones to invite the world back to the US for friendship, comfort, sport and enjoyment… and to further become one of the most inviting and worldly cities… which we know we are… and always will be…

I also must say… if this is just one group/event… imagine when all the rest organize and participate as well… as I know they will… and it will all be beautiful… I for one celebrate and support that!  And would love to attend if invited… good luck all!

It was great seeing you there! I volunteered and had a fun, hectic time behind the scenes. Though volunteering didn’t give me the time to say much of a hi, we were glad you came and enjoyed the show!
