Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks August 4, 2016 You don’t have to spend money to experience world-class theater in Chicago this summer—just grab a blanket and head to one of the 19 parks on this year’s Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks tour! Performances of Shakespeare’s hilarious Twelfth Night are free for all and coming to all corners of the city from July 14 – August 14, 2016. At each tour location, a specially equipped truck rolls into the park, a stage unfolds, and a company of professional actors shares this jubilant, music-infused romantic comedy with neighborhoods across Chicago. People of all ages are sure to enjoy this unique and exciting program! Twelfth Night tells the tale of a young girl named Viola who, separated from her twin brother in a shipwreck, adopts a male disguise and enters into the service of Duke Orsino. Misunderstandings and mistaken identities abound as Viola finds herself in the middle of a triangle of unrequited love. Music is incorporated into the play with the sounds of piano, guitar, ukulele, cajon and banjolele—giving vibrant life to the play’s memorable line, “if music be the food of love, play on.” So call some friends, pack up a picnic and enjoy the perfect summer outing—free professional theater in your own backyard!
