#FashionDope: Chicago-based Fashion Line TruLiesCo. Creates Custom Designs to Keep You Tru to Yourself March 17, 2014 Hey guys! I’m Robin H-B, one of Billy Dec’s newest interns. I’ve lived in this amazing city my entire life. This city is like my boyfriend, and let me tell you my boyfriend has style. I’m here to give you the scoop on the hottest underground fashion lines, TruLies Co. Get in tune! Chicago is my favorite place in the whole world. Not just because our pizza is best and we get two baseball teams, but because of the opportunities it gives its residents. In the past few years a lot of people have started their own fashion clothing line, which isn’t surprising seeing as how Columbia College is right in the heart of the Loop. Some lines start off strong and fall off when the going gets tough. Other designers hit a bump and hurdle over it to keep their lines flourishing and relevant. Out of all the up and coming underground fashion lines my favorite has to be TruLies Co. TruLies Co. is the truth behind the subliminal lies we see on the daily basis. They pride themselves on believing that it is better to stay tru to yourself than following the lie today’s society has set for you. They want you to standout right along with them. TruLies started back in 2010 while creator Will Jamison was still in his undergraduate program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. That alone is impressive. While I was in school focused on trying to understand statics, Will was able to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising Business Marketing, survive the infamous Unofficial at U of I, and create a solid foundation for his brand. What I like about TLC is that it’s custom fashion. I don’t have to feel restricted to original colors of the designs, and I love that. I have a few pairs of wild color shoes and it’s hard to find things that match. It’s what I get for wanting to live outside the box! Everything is done in house. Literally. At Will’s home there is a screen print machine where he makes all his designs by hand to transfer onto whatever article of clothing you want. Want to know what’s even better? Along with TruLies Co Will also started Blank Canvas. Their tag line? “Have an idea you want to bring to life? Let us do the rest.” So not only can you have the option of a custom TLC piece, but you can really have whatever your heart desires. That is what is so amazing about Will and his companies: they are all about their clients. Blank Canvas and TruLies Co. give you the chance to express yourself freely. TruLies Co. lives and breathes this incredible place we get to call home, pulling inspiration from some of the things we Chicagoans hold near and dear to our hearts: our beloved Bulls, our slang, and even or snacks. That is honestly the greatest part about TLC. No matter what they stay tru. Tru to Chicago and tru to themselves. You can expect big things from both TruLies Co and Blank Canvas this year. TruLiesCo released a new design to celebrate Black History month. You can find this design as well as a few others on their website or you can check them out on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. As they say, “Get with it. Don’t get left.” 2 Responses What an Italian Beef Sandwich Tastes Like to a Chicagoan Who Has Never Tasted One « A Chicago Thing May 6, 2014 […] guys, Robin H-B again.
