I Am Who I Am Foundation for Down Syndrome August 23, 2014 Hi, I am Holly Simon and the mother of 5 kids. When my 5th child was born here in Chicago everyone in the delivery room noticed that Nate had Down Syndrome. Unfortunately the usual CONGRATULATIONS were not heard. The doctors and nurses all said that they were sorry to my husband and I. Can you imagine? The fears? The horror? “Sorry” must mean he was dying. Fast forward 11 years and meet my amazing son Nathaniel. He is just like every other child his age. He loves to play sports, flirts with all the girls and swears like a truck driver. He is not the child they told me about. I became a fierce warrior, I want to erase the “sorry-s.” I began the I Am Who I Am Foundation to celebrate all of our kids! Our biggest fundraiser is on November 1st at the Beveryly Arts Center (111th and Western Ave in Chicago) from 6pm-10 p.m. The night is full of live entertainment, martini stations, food, shopping, cash bar, silent auctions, raffles and so much more. It’s only a $25.00 donation! Its a night to celebrate every single child that may be a bit different. I am who I am! Acceptance, Inclusion, Understanding and Love. Thats what its all about. For more information please visit HERE or please feel free to call me at (773) 547-3300. See you there!
