Redhead Days Chicago May 29, 2016 Look out Chicago, a sea of red is coming on June 4th +5th! The first week of June marks the second annual Redhead Days Chicago, a two-day event focused on celebrating the beauty of redheads! Jim Stoecker, Highwood’s honorary redhead and Founder of the event, brought Red Head Days over from Europe where the original event drew thousands of redheads from all around the world. Some fun attractions include: Carrot Cake Throwdown on June 4 from 2-4 pm. “The people” and a panel of celebrity media personalities will taste and judge the best carrot cake skillfully crafted by esteemed chefs from all over the North Shore such as Baker Boys, Bent Fork Bakery, Sunset Foods, Taste on Chestnut, Alex’s Washington Gardens, returning champion Nothing Bunt Cakes and a few other surprise entries. (Figure 1, last year’s Carrot Cake Throwdown submissions) Record breaking aerial group photo of the country’s largest gathering of redheads on June 5 at 2 p.m. Last year’s photo captured more than 750 of the 2,500 attendees from all across the country and we’re hoping to double it this year (Figure 2, last year’s aerial group photo) A photo booth capturing ginger nation, complete with red wigs and props for those with red envy! A pub crawl throughout town beginning at 6 pm on June 4 (but that’s not to say you can’t enjoy the red themed alcoholic beverages provided by Van Gogh Vodka all day long!) Pet contests, live music, special red themed bites and beverages, pony rides, group art, a petting zoo, bounce houses, inflatable plastic bubble suit games, and tons more! Admission is free and redheaded attendees are asked to register at the main tent in front in City Hall Park, 17 Highwood Avenue, to be a part of the count for most redheads gathered in one place.
