Hi, I am Holly Simon and the mother of 5 kids. When my 5th child was born here in Chicago everyone in the delivery room noticed that Nate had Down Syndrome. Unfortunately the usual CONGRATULATIONS were not heard. The doctors and nurses all said that they were sorry to my husband and I. Can you imagine? The fears? The horror? "Sorry" must mean he was dying.

I’m Brandon. Born and raised in Chicago, IL right in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. I love everything about this city – the people, the sights, the bars… everything. It truly is a great city to live in for many reasons, even more so if you love beer!

One of the city's most celebrated charity events is almost here! This Saturday, Sept. 7th, celebrate Green Tie Ball with Chicago Gateway Green, the organization dedicated to greening and beautifying Chicago. This year marks the 22nd annual gala, and the theme is 'Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.'

Enjoy appetizers, an open bar, networking, music, raffles, and other fun, along the dazzling Chicago River. We will have open seating on the patio on the Chicago River Walk and inside seating as well. Is there a better way to celebrate hump day?

Attention all animal lovers! This is Cassy from Ripple Public Relations, and I wanted to spread the word about an amazing benefit coming up on Saturday, May 11th at John Barleycorn River North (149 W. Kinzie). Chicago-based non-profit organization, The Puppy Mill Project, is holding their annual benefit to honor the “Mothers in the Mills”, just in time for Mother’s Day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation Illinois Chapter’s signature fundraiser, the annual black-tie Wish Ball, will take place on Saturday, May 18th at 6pm at the UIC Forum! This will be an evening to remember, featuring live and silent auctions, dinner, dancing, raffles and much more!

Martin McGarry, native of Co Mayo, Ireland spent his youth fighting for his place among his many brothers and sisters. His teenage years were spent in boxing rings spanning several continents. As an adult he devoted his life to training boxers and taking kids off the streets, giving them an outlet to box and a safe place to channel their energy. Now he is the one in need.

I attended the 6th Annual Grand Slam Party at Rockit Bar & Grill last week and would love to tell you all about it…just in case you missed out. The Grand Slam party is an event that stems from the Bring Me Home campaign, which is an amazing union between the Chicago White Sox’s Paul Konerko and Gordon Beckham and Children’s Home + Aid, a foster organization in Chicago.

Friday, June 1st promises to be a one-of-a-kind night at Lincoln Park Zoo. The zoo’s auxiliary board is hosting their signature fundraiser, Zoo-ologie, in the heart of the Zoo. All the proceeds raised during this unique event will go towards helping care for the animals, keep up exhibits, as well as continue education initiatives all while keeping the zoo free to the public. Lincoln Park Zoo is currently one of only three free zoos in the entire country – and we want it to stay that way! If you live anywhere near Chicago, chances are you’ve enjoyed the beautiful grounds of the LP Zoo at some point in your life. As a DePaul Alum, I walked through the zoo countless times on my way to and from the beach just because I could; not much is free these days, so you have to take advantage and enjoy those few things that are.

“They” say to try and do at least one good deed a day right? Open the door for someone, help someone carry their groceries, or even something as simple as letting someone go in front of you in line. In this instance that I speak of, good deeds go a long way. You have the power to help a kids dream come true and have a blast with a couple of your friends!
