Team One Step from Children’s Oncology Services to host Charity Poker Championship! March 3, 2014 Who could forget Summer Camp? Roasting marshmallows over the campfire, late-night laughs with cabinmates, jumping in a lake; Summer Camp represents the simple joys of childhood. But for a child with cancer, these experiences are not always possible. That’s where Children’s Oncology Services comes in. Our mission is to provide programs throughout the year that allow kids with cancer to just be kids. Through our One Step Programs, we offer fun, friendship, and support in a safe and nurturing environment. We have many opportunities coming up to support this organization. Team One Step, the racing team for Children’s Oncology Services, has a limited number of guaranteed entries into the 2014 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on October 12. Bypass the lottery and claim your spot in this world-class race in our own backyard. Members of Team One Step agree to raise $1,000, the cost of sending a kid to camp for a week. In return, you will receive a free race entry, a 39-week training plan, and access to social events throughout the season. For more information, visit www.teamonestep.org. More of a card shark than a runner? We are hosting our annual Charity Poker Championship on March 6 at the National Hellenic Museum. Over 270 players will compete for approximately $15,000 in prizes including the coveted Grand Prize: a seat at the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. Tickets are $295 for players and $75 for spectators, and can be purchased at www.onestepcamp.org/events/2014-charity-poker-championship. We are also accepting applications for Summer Camp counselors and medical staff. Summer Camp is our largest program, serving over 300 children over two sessions: July 5th-12th and July 12th-19th. Witness the magic of our programs firsthand, and be a part of what is for so many of our campers, the highlight of their year. Summer Camp volunteers must be 21 or older to apply: www.onestepcamp.org/programs/summer-camp/. – Hailey Danisewicz, Development Coordinator at the Children’s Oncology Services, Inc.
